What Exactly IS NORA Tea?!

NORA Tea is a nourishing tea for preconception, the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and postpartum. 


There’s a lot of contradictory information about the safety of Red Raspberry Leaf in the first trimester due to being a uterine toning herb. My recommendation is to talk with your care provider and use discernment by going to the Lord in prayer.

 

NORA Tea consists of Nettle, Oatstraw, Red Raspberry Leaf and Alfalfa. This tea has traditionally been recommended by midwives as it has many healthful and preventative properties. The specific herbs are chosen for their nutritive content and their herbal actions that are beneficial for women in their childbearing year. 

 

NORA Tea is known to stimulate your system to optimal health, optimize mineral absorption, guard against anemias and maximize liver health. NORA Tea has been known to minimize and even prevent many common pregnancy complaints.

Benefits of the Herbs:

Nettle: Urtica Dioica

Strengthens and supports the whole body. It is powerful against pollen allergies or hay fever. Anti-inflammatory properties, useful for migraines, arthritis and lupus pain. Highly nutritive with vitamins, minerals; particularly iron, silica and potassium. Antifungal properties. Promotes detoxification and helps prevent bladder infections. Strengthens the kidneys and adrenals, which are important functions during pregnancy. The high calcium content helps to diminish muscle pain. With the high Vitamin K content, Nettle is proactive in preventing excessive bleeding postpartum. Can help prevent hemorrhoids and varicose veins and maintain a normal blood pressure due to the properties that strengthen the blood vessels and maintain arterial elasticity. After birth, Nettle helps with the production of breast milk and provides a nutrient dense milk for baby. 




Oatstraw: Avena Sativa

Oatstraw is one of the best herbs to "feed" the nervous system. Oatstraw is beneficial for exhaustion and depression as it strengthens the whol nervous system, making it a preventative and protective herb which also enhances your ability to cope with stress. Oatstraw is stimulating and energy-giving but is also relaxing and aids in restful sleep. Oats are a uterine tonic and works on strengthening the thyroid and balancing hormone production. Oatstraw can also be helpful for high blood pressure, varicose veins and hemorrhoids. This herb is also soothing to the digestive tract, lowers blood sugar and is useful for fluid retention. Oatstraw is one of the best sources for magnesium which helps with irritability and calcium absorption. 



 

Raspberry Leaf: Rubus Idaeus

Raspberry Leaf has a long tradition of use in pregnancy to strengthen and tone the tissue of the womb, assisting contractions and preventing excessive bleeding Raspberry also tones the mucous membranes throughout the body, soothes the kidneys and urinary tract and prevents excessive bleeding after the birth. Raspberry also works on the digestive tract by stabilizing it. After birth, Raspberry Leaf helps milk production and mother's recovery. The tonic and relaxant actions on the smooth muscle of the uterus acts to reduce the pain of uterine contractions during childbirth and makes them more effective and productive, which can help shorten the duration of labor. 

 

**It is advised to not use Raspberry Leaf in early pregnancy due to the concern of early miscarriage. It is recommended to cease use of Raspberry Leaf until after 16 weeks of pregnancy. Talk to your care provider and use discernment on the use of RRL in your first trimester.**

 



Alfalfa: Medicago Sativa

Alfalfa goes back to the ancient times of our ancestors and is cherished for its nourishing abilities for people and for animals. Alfalfa has a deep tap roots and grows in rich soils, making it very rich in trace minerals. Alfalfa can purify the blood and is a powerful tonic. This herb balances blood sugar and prevents swings of hypoglycemia, which is common in pregnancy. It can sooth the digestive tract and contains the digestive enzyme, Betaine, and the saponins balance the intestinal flora.




Suggested Use:

Add a 1/4 cup of NORA Tea blend into a quart-sized jar

Boil 4 cups of water and pour into the jar

Cover and steep overnight for 8+ hours

Strain the herbs and reheat to enjoy warm, or pour over ice to enjoy cool

To add flavor:

  • Add honey, blackstrap molasses (source of iron) or maple syrup to sweeten

  • Mix half and half with fruit juice

  • Add a squeeze of lemon or lime

  • Cut half and half with water

Do not use artificial sweeteners with this tea.

You can make up a gallon or more at a time and store it in the fridge to reduce the amount of time you spend making this weekly to ensure you have enough on hand to drink daily. 

When and How to Use NORA Tea:

NORA Tea is a nourishing tea for the preconception season in the months leading up trying to conceive and while trying to conceive. Once you get a positive pregnancy test, wait to continue enjoying your NORA Tea until after you have reached 16 weeks of pregnancy. You can continue to enjoy Nettles, Oatstraw and Alfalfa during the first 15 weeks of your pregnancy. 

After 16 weeks of pregnancy, enjoy a quart of NORA Tea everyday! 

This tea can benefit women in all stages of motherhood, especially in the depleted stage of postpartum and birth recovery.
