Ain't She Purty?!

A few months ago Ben and I started talking about possibly trading in Big Black. (Yes, we un-shamefully name our vehicles...) Big Black is a Chevy 3500 Duramax Crew Cab Long Box. She's a boat. No... she's a limo. I've been driving Big Black for 2.5 years now and I love it!

But... I wasn't that in love with it. So we started talking about the possibility of looking around for a Crew Cab Short Box truck. Something that will still fit 3 kids easily, haul anything and everything we attach to it and something that wasn't such a boat to drive around.

We had thoughts of trading in both Big Black and Mally (our 2011 Chevy Malibu) for a newer Duramax and a Chevy Traverse. I have had dreams of driving a Chevy Traverse for YEARS now and even more so since we've discussed the possibility of going through the process to become Short-Term Foster Parents.

Anywho... so we worked with the dealership for quite some time. Having them keep their eyes open. Friday night, the 28th, we had an appointment to test drive a 2010 Chevy 2500 Duramax Crew Cab Short Box. I wasn't in love with it. If it had to be my everyday driver, I didn't want it. That sounds selfish but hey... If I was already paying for the luxury that I had, why give it up to downgrade on interior just to upgrade in year and a couple options I could add to my existing truck?

So we passed on the deal. After driving it, Ben wasn't in love either. We already have come to accept that we love change and that we would probably be trading our next truck in sometime within the next 2-3 years... but why be stuck with something you don't love?

So while walking around the lot trying to decide what we wanted to do, Ben asked about this beautiful 2011 GMC 2500 Duramax Crew Cab Short Box sitting in the front row. I instantly fell in love with it.

It had beautiful, big tires. A sight for sore eyes compared to the baby tires on the 2010. It had pretty much the same luxurious interior that my existing truck had but tan instead of black. It had all the options we thought about adding to our existing truck (Line-x spray-in bed liner, hideaway gooseneck ball, running boards), the only thing it didn't have was cab lights; but that's not a deal breaker in my book and they can be added!

We test drove it and then asked to keep it for the night. After driving it for a few hours, we knew we didn't want to give her back. So we made it official Saturday morning and signed the papers!

Meet our new Beauty!
Whom we still need to come up with a name for!
Any ideas? Shoot them at me!

Less than 24 hours at its new home and we've put her to work!

We're very happy with our decision! My dream of a Traverse will have to wait a bit longer, but we're OK with that!

So we say farewell to Big Black...
You served our family a great 2.5 years!

Until next time, friends
