My No Poo Journey: First Wash
eek! I started 'No Poo' tonight! No... I'm not forcing constipation on myself! Don't worry, that's what I thought No Poo meant when I first heard of it about 3 years ago in a Mommy Group from BabyCenter I was an avid member of. It just means that we have found alternative ways of washing our hair instead of using today's shampoos that are riddled with harsh chemicals.
If you want to know why No Poo... Read THIS!
Tonight was my first washing without shampoo and conditioner. Instead I used a mixture of baking soda and water to wash my hair and a mixture of white vinegar and water to condition my hair.
My hair before my first wash!
The no-sudsing of the baking soda/water mixutre is something I'll have to get used to. I ended up using the entire bottle (ketchup bottle) to wash my hair to make sure I got the roots nice and clean. I have pretty oily hair, so I'm sure my transition period will be quite interesting.
The white vinegar/water mixture was pretty impressive though! I just sprayed it onto the length of my hair concentrating on my roots and the softness of my hair was pretty cool!
Brushing my hair was afterwards was normal. Not as sleek as when I use modern day conditioner but it wasn't terrible like it would be had I not used any shampoo or conditioner at all. I've taken showers where I wasn't in need of shampooing or conditioning so I skip it but brushing my hair is often a pain. Literally.
I know it's my first wash... but I look forward to experiencing some of the perks that many have reported!
*More body
*Less oily hair
*Less frizz and fly-aways (great for curly hair!)
*Added shine
*Hair that's easier to style
*Wash hair less since your scalp will no longer be overproducing oils
*No more chemicals!
*More MONEY in your bank account!*
*New hair growth
A few hours after my first wash... and dried and feeling pretty awesome! I can only hope it always feels this great, but I'm sure I'm in for a real treat during my transition period!
I will be posting updates as I go along! Follow me if you're interested in this new 'movement!'
Until next time, friends
