Oh Won't You Be Mine, Valentine?

I'm just going to put it out there. I hate Valentine's Day. What a worthless holiday. Honestly, we don't even celebrate Valentine's Day unless we really need an excuse for a date night. To us, it's just a Hallmark Holiday that is set up to get you to feel obligated to spend money. We feel there are more important things to spend money on and more important events/holidays to celebrate.

That's what works for us.

But... giving that we have a preschooler now (eek!) and he just so happens to have a Valentine's Day Party, I decided to sign up for something cutesy.

So I chose...

Special Treat

I had to pick the brains of my fellow mommy's group who so cleverly came up with an easy but cute treat! Heart shaped Rice Krispie treats dipped in chocolate and drizzled with pink!

Well, I got everything BUT the "drizzled with pink" because there wasn't anything sufficient unless I did some extra steps and dyed white chocolate.

Meh. So I improvised. Pink Rice Krispies, dipped in chocolate.

First... I had to melt some chocolate.

The original method (I say original, but I'll touch on that later) that I used was warming water in a pan and stirring. If you're anything like me, which I hope you're not, then this isn't a good idea because burns may occur as you stir when hot water splashes all around.

Next, I melted some marshmallows and added PINK food coloring.

...Floor mallows are fair game, ya'll! Eat that shit up!

Stir, stir, stir! Look at that pretty pink goodness!

Add in your Krispies and stir, stir, stir some more!

They were too good to not sample!

Even Miss B wanted some... but she's a bit too young for solids yet, let alone sugary crap.
She was a great help, nonetheless!

Then I poured the Krispie goodness into pans to cool a bit. Miss Bailey needed a nursing as it was bedtime and I needed a break anyways.

After I handed little Bailey off to daddy to rock once she was done nursing, the real fun began!

I had to cut the Kripsies into heart shapes, ya know, since it's Valentine's Day and all... This was quite easy to do freehand. Thank goodness because it's like pulling teeth around this town to find a fucking cookie cutter.

(No picture for that... I plum forgot)

Here's where I touch on my "original" chocolate melting plan. See... when you don't pay 100% close attention to your melting chocolate, this tends to happen.

The chocolate overheated and turned into a fudge texture. Fortunately, for me, it is still SUPER yummy! So I popped it in the fridge for my next chocolate craving!

Thank goodness I knew my abilities when it came to melting chocolate... er, maybe my lack of ability to focus on one thing for more than 30 miliseconds. Anyways, I bought 2 bags of chocolate, so I was able to perfectly melt the other bag!

Let the dipping begin!

and... the finished product!
I'm totally winning the award for best Pinterest Mom tomorrow!

BTW: These are ridiculously easy and also ridiculously... like should be illegal, YUMMY!

Have a happy day!

Until next time, friends
