Self-proclaimed Night Shifter

Image
You guys... I'm becoming a 3rd shifter. It's not that I wanted to. Well, maybe a little . I can get so much done at night once everyone is asleep! But it's wreaking havoc on my husband's sleeping and that's not good. He has been late or very close to being late more times in the last couple months than he has in the 8 years that I've been with him.  It's all my fault. We have dinner like a civilized American family. Around 6, sometimes 7 at night. Kids get a bath, sometimes with mommy or with daddy. The other person cleans up the kitchen after dinner and heads out for barn chores if they haven't already been done. Bentley heads to bed, Bailey gets nursed and then handed off to Ben for their nightly nap-before-bed. Then I proceed to pump, clean up the house, do some laundry, sometimes dishes if they aren't done yet and I try... keyword, try. I try to get us into before before 11. Ben has to be up for work by 430a. Ugh. I don't kno...

My No Poo Journey: First Wash

Image
eek! I started 'No Poo' tonight! No... I'm not forcing constipation on myself! Don't worry, that's what I thought No Poo meant when I first heard of it about 3 years ago in a Mommy Group from BabyCenter I was an avid member of. It just means that we have found alternative ways of washing our hair instead of using today's shampoos that are riddled with harsh chemicals.  If you want to know why No Poo... Read THIS !  Tonight was my first washing without shampoo and conditioner. Instead I used a mixture of baking soda and water to wash my hair and a mixture of white vinegar and water to condition my hair. My hair before my first wash! The no-sudsing of the baking soda/water mixutre is something I'll have to get used to. I ended up using the entire bottle (ketchup bottle) to wash my hair to make sure I got the roots nice and clean. I have pretty oily hair, so I'm sure my transition period will be quite interesting. The white vi...

Getting Fit while Breastfeeding: Zumba Night

Image
Damn! I kicked ass at Zumba tonight! This was my 4th class and the best class of them all, so far! I felt strong, I felt energetic. I was able to keep up with almost all of the moves, some I had to learn so those were a bit tricky but overall, I felt great! I was even able to "whoop" it up and sing along! Normally I'm too concentrated on the movements and not falling (shoes that won't stick) that any extracurricular wasn't possible! But tonight ROCKED! Not sure if my new RAINBOW shoes had anything to do with that or of being down on myself as a mother and wife, but I would like to think that I'm getting stronger and more in shape! I have been dealing with a pretty sore ankle though. It was fine during my pregnancy with Bailey but ever since giving birth to her almost 7 months ago it has been giving me awful fits. Every morning it's a struggle to get downstairs without feeling like I'm going to fall or drop Bailey. Even after stretching it out. I l...

My No Poo Journey: The Beginning

Image
In my quest to live life in a more natural state, I've decided to add 'No Poo' to my repertoire of "crunchy" arsenal! So, tonight I took the plunge and bought the things I'll need! A little background: Until the 1800's, it was recommended to only shampoo your hair once a month. A few decades later, the synthetic shampoo was born and people started shampooing every two weeks. But, by the 1970's, shampooing became a daily routine for many. You hair contains natural oils, called sebum, in its follicles. This sebum keeps your hair conditioned and healthy. Washing your hair with the harsh chemicals found in today's shampoo strips away at your hairs natural oils. The theory behind the 'No Poo Movement' is by washing your hair with a gentle alternative to shampoo such as, baking soda and either apple cider vinegar if you have a normal/dry scalp or white vinegar if you have an oily scalp. With the No Poo, you will achieve clean, healt...

RIP Sophie

Image
Oh Sophie. You rubber teething toy. I don't know what it is about you but my kids have loved you. You've taken the abuse, the slobber, the neck pulling (which damn near took your head off once, hence the hole), you've put up with the teeth and violent shakes to get you to squeak.  But you're old and worn out now. You're squeaker barely works, my 3 year old sticks his fingers in your neck and even though you're kept clean and sanitized, you look dirty and grimey.  So RIP Sophie. Until we meet again in a younger, cleaner and squeakier version of you for Easter.  Until next time, friends

I Will Breastfeed ANYWHERE!

Image
I thought this would be kind of cute! If it's not, oh well. I will bask in my creativity myself because I thought it was a cute idea! This is how I felt with my son when I was pregnant with him. So many were pushing breastfeeding. How convenient it was. How easy it was. But I rebelled and pushed them away. I didn't know what I wanted to do, and being pushed was making my decision harder... After Bentley was born, it took a couple days but I had a change of heart and wanted to breastfeed. Of course, I had already set myself up for failure and didn't educate myself so after a week of trying and failing at getting him to latch, I gave up completely. I am Mom I am Mom Mom I am That Mom-I-am That Mom-I-am! I do not like that Mom-I-Am Do you like breastfeeding? I do not like that, Mom-I-am. I do not like breastfeeding. Would you like it Here or there? I would not like it here or there. I would not like it anywhere. ...

*GIVEAWAY* The Great UGLee Pen

Image
I'm promoting this Giveaway for a friend! Trust me when I say, I'm no newbie to the pen game. I'm a pen user from way back. Click pens, cap pens, colored pens, gel pens, tri-colored pens, you name it. I'm a writing fiend. But old age and computer use has really slowed my game. I can't even do marathon thank you card writing sessions anymore because the inklings of carpal tunnel start setting in. (See what I did there?) Enter the world of ergonomic pens. Attempts at this genre have been around forever, from teh Pilot G-2 to the Dr. Grip and Evo. They all attempt and fail at what the Uglee ergonomic pen succeeds in providing; the perfect grip. In all the other pends, either the grip is too thin to make a big difference in the padding, or the padding comes loose and unwieldy, others change the shape of the pen so the act of writing isn't familiar but a practice in learning how to write with a un-pen-like instrument. In the Uglee Pen, the grip covers a ...
